When it comes to coloring hair nothing is in fact permanent. Demi permanent colors, that we use to gloss/tone after highlighting will fade with every wash. Permanent colors used for base colors and Grey coverage will fade as well but have made a permanent change to the structure of your hair so you can expect more warmth when fading.

There is a multitude of factors which contribute to the longevity of your tone. Some which we have absolutely no control over and others we can manipulate with proper at home care.

The texture & porosity of hair plays an extremely significant role in how your hair will accept and release color.  Textured hair (kinky, curly, wavy, frizzy) has a more open cuticle layer and typically releases color faster than hair that is smooth, silky or straight.  Hair that has and increased porosity due to damage from heat styling, color damage or agressive medications, etc will release color faster aswell.

Frequency of washing. If you wash your hair more often, color will fade faster.

Temperature of water you wash your hair with. Hot water will fade color faster.

Amount of exposure to heat styling and sun.  Proper professional heat styling tools are recommended and on low to medium heat settings.

Type of at home hair care products used.

Professional color safe shampoos & conditioners that are meant for your hair texture are extremely important in maintaining and improving longevity of color.  Drugstore products can strip color very quickly.

Professional styling products. It is extremely important that hair is cared for with proper product such as Heat protectants and hydrating products to maintain hair health and color longevity.

These are some of the most important factors that contribute to the longevity of your color. What we do in salon through technique and application is very important but other key factors are crucial in maintaining the look at home in between salon services. ask your stylist for recommendations based on your specific needs.
